Planting Wishes: Grow the Produce Our Community Desires!

Help Us Expand Fertile GroundWorks
Fertile GroundWorks is excited to announce the expansion of our growing space, and we need your support to bring this dream to life! Our mission is to provide fresh, healthy food to our neighbors in need, and we’re taking it a step further by planting a wish list of produce that reflects the diverse tastes and cultural backgrounds of our community.

What’s on the Wish List?

When we asked our pantry partners, clients, supporters, and volunteers, “What kind of produce would you like Fertile GroundWorks to grow?” their answers were as diverse as they were heartfelt. Beyond our popular tomatoes, the community expressed a desire for:

  • Tropical fruits: Papaya, mango, custard apples, cherimoya, chiku (sapodilla), golden kiwis
  • Exotic plants: Crosnes (Chinese artichokes), curry tree, ha gobo
  • Favorites: Guava, avocados

How You Can Help

We’ve already received grants to conduct surveys and start procuring some of these new plants. Now, we need your help to:

  1. Complete the Wish List: We need additional funds to procure the remaining plants.
  2. Build a Winter Greenhouse: This will protect our new, more cold-sensitive plants during the winter months.
  3. Install a Protective Fence: A ground squirrel barrier will safeguard our plants from local wildlife.

Our winter greenhouse will be designed for flexibility, allowing us to remove the cover when the weather warms to prevent overheating our plants in the summer. While automated greenhouses exist, building a more cost-effective version will enable us to invest more in our garden’s diversity and resilience.

Share Your Wishes: We also invite you to share your suggestions! What other fruits and vegetables would you love to see in our garden? Your input helps us create a space that nourishes and delights our community. Drop us an email at Fertilegroundworks@fertilegroundworks.org and we will try it too.

Thank you for being a part of this journey. Let’s plant the seeds of a healthier, happier future together!

Join Us in Making a Difference: Your support will help us create a garden that feeds our community’s body and soul. Together, we can grow various nutritious, culturally significant produce and make this new expansion a vibrant, productive reality.

The Community Health and Education Foundation (CHEF) will match every donation up to $10,000 in support of the Planting Wishes Campaign. Let’s make a bigger impact together!
